Raging hardcore from Umea, Sweden. Unlike a lot of Swedish bands this is more of an old school US hardcore sound than a Discharge influenced sound. Similar to early DRI, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, and Negative Approach. Really powerful and pissed off hardcore. Have done two large US tours, numerous European tours and one tour of Japan. Their last LP/CD with a PUSHEAD artwork cover sold over 8,000 copies in less then a year. This CD includes: "Aborted Teen Generation" 7" (havoc/busted head records),"For The Kids, Not The Business" 7" (deranged records), "Jag Hatar Soldater" 7" (self released limited to 138 copies) ,Compilation tracks from "Spankin' Nurse", "Thrash Of The Titans", "Counter Culture", "Farewell To Arms 3" and "Histeria", Four unreleased tracks, A live set. A grand total of 39 studio tracks + live.

So, I guess this is the final release from the mighty D.S.-13? A collection of tracks from 7"s, compilations, and that sort of thing. Ahhh well, people can say what they want, but D.S.-13 fuckin' ruled and they never put out a record that didn't kick ass. If you like your hardcore/punk fast, pissed off, and with a good dose of both attitude and humor, then there's no excuse for not digging these guys. This CD includes the tracks from the "Aborted Teen Generation", "For the Kids, Not the Business", and "Jag Hatar Soldater" 7"s, a slew of compilation tracks, a few currently unreleased tracks (intended for compilations that may or may not ever see the light), and a 20-minute live set recorded during the band's 2001 US tour. Among the assorted D.S.-13 madness are covers of No Choice, Reagan Youth, The Varukers, Step Forward, and M.O.D. (sort of. "Fascist Cop" is basically M.O.D.'s "Bubble Butt" with one different line of lyrics). Most of the recordings are really pretty consistent, and nothing bothers me. The production on the "For the Kids, Not the Business" 7" is probably the rawest the band has ever sounded. It's a little bit sloppier, a little bit muddier, and just all around rugged when compared to most of their other material. They've never really been polished, but something about the mix on that particular record just doesn't quite do them justice due to the lack of clarity. (But at least the monolithic bass tone is still easily audible!) Everything else is pretty even and has enough clarity to get by. There's a little more treble on the "Aborted Teen Generation" 7" than elsewhere, but again, it's not a problem. The live set sounds pretty damn good, too. Sure, it's got issues, but I can listen to it. It's a bit thin and flat, and the drums/vocals tend to dominate (as is often the case), but you can hear the guitars and the bass, and it's not that noisy either. Plus, it's cool that you can understand all of the between song banter, and get some sense of the energy of their live show. The layout is pretty damn cool. There are tons and tons of small photo collages with lots of humorous shit going on, all of the lyrics are included, recording information and documentation of where the tracks originally appeared is all here (including all of the old record covers - a damn nice touch), and then there are some brief liner notes about some of the good and the bad that the band had to deal with in their time. Of course the lyrics deal with everything from political issues to just fucking around and having fun, but they always maintain a certain sense of humor, even when they're being serious. Take for instance "Eran Profit, VŒran Dšd", about which they state, "These lyrics deal with the horror of war, and are written in a country that hasn't been to war for a couple of hundred years. But hey, why change a winning concept?" If you've already got the bulk of this stuff on vinyl, maybe the CD won't be worth it for you, but it would be for my dollar, if for no other reason than to have all of these songs together on one disc, that's for damn sure. It's a shame they are no more, but at least they didn't go out on a bad note. [8/10]
