The Stakeout
on the run 12"/cd
(DY45/46)

Hailing from Finland, these 5 gents play nothing but good old fashion 80's inspired US hardcore comparable to the likes of Jerry's Kids and some have said Minor Threat but I would stick with the Boston influences personally. If anything, this record reminds me of the first 1st DS-13 7" - raw, fast, loud and damn solid. Did I mention this band features two dudes from the legendary SELFISH - pro fucken bono! They have a 7", a split 7" and a split LP already out but this is their best and strongest recording to date. For more information see dive.to/thestakeout.

Slug & Lettuce #78
Another killer installment from the Finnish rockers. Even a progression from their amazing split with Burniple on Six Weeks, these 16 songs should provide consolation to those upset about the demise of TEAR IT UP... nothing but adrenaline and old school hardcore to be found here. SUICIDAL TENDENCIES cover is fucking awesome and the breakdowns are just simply brutal. Hard hitting hardcore, the way it should be played, as simple as that.

Short, Fast, and Loud
This is mastered really fucking loud, every time I play it, I have to run to the volume control to save my speakers from impending hardcore doom.

I keep seeing it written that this Finnish band is ploughing the over saturated path of US 81-82, but to be honest, I don't think that they're too similar to said bands. It definitely has a nod to that era, but is played with considerably more competence and by people with a considerably greater body of work to draw upon for their influences than the OG 82 bands, which can't help but shape the end result of this release.

To be honest, I think they unintentionally come off as sounding like Heresy at times. This is a solid release by The Stat and sure to go down well with the fans of no-frills, slightly retro hardcore.

Artcore #20
New full-length from these Finnish Hardcore Thrashers. Continuing very much in the tradition of DS-13 with those definite early U.S.H.C. influences at 1000mph in one minute blasts. In fact the first influential nod comes in the form of the stabbing snare roll in 'Up To You' which is taken directly from 'WhatÕs Wrong with Me?' by FAITH. The lyrics and song titles are short and to the point and remind me of both STATE and early DIE KREUZEN in that respect. Sixteen songs in 18 and a half minutes, including a blistering cover of 'Memories of Tomorrow' originally by SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. This is great, real hi-energy face-pummeling stuff.

If raging, powerful, scathing and hasty, thrashy, early '80's American styled hardcorepunk is your cup of beer, you cannot go wrong with THE STAKEOUT. 15 songs of their own plus "Memories of tomorrow" by SUICIDAL TENDENCIES were crammed on both sides of the coin, so please believe me: These Finnish guys don't fuck around!! Do yourself a favor and buy this work of genius!***
