RED DONS ‘death to idealism’ LP 200 copies on BLUE vinyl

RED DONS ‘escape amman’ 7” – on white and blue vinyl
TRANZMITORS ‘s/t’ LP – on white/blue mixed vinyl
HAYMAKER ‘s/t’ LP limited repress on black vinyl

DISTRO - Recently added some great new items in the online store including the new ASTA KASK LP, Knugen Faller LP, JEFFIE GENETIC LP, Dangerloves 7”, etc… I am also expecting the OBSERVERS ‘walk alone’ 7” and both Kakka-hata 77 7”s soonish which are excellent. I cannot recommend the ASTA KASK LP enough - not as great as their previous stuff but still GREAT!!

PRE-ORDERS - There was a delay with the VIOLENT MINDS 12” vinyl at the pressing plant, which delayed the majority pre-orders. For those who have been patiently waiting on their pre-orders, all 200 plus pre-order packages are now in the mail – expect them soon. Again thanks for the patience and enjoy.

DIGITAL DOWNLOADING - There has been an increasing demand for some of my releases to be available via digital downloading. I recently made available a good portion of the DERANGED catalogue for digital downloading. Current titles available for downloading include the new RED DONS album, TRANZMITORS, CAREER SUICIDE, BRUTAL KNIGHTS, VIOLENT MINDS, FUCKED UP, etc…. These are available from all the usual culprits such as Itunes, Napster, and Emusic.

RED DONS - Now accepting pre-orders for the RED DONS’ first album ‘Death to Idealism’. Limited colored vinyl will once again come as two options, 200 copies of each blue and white vinyl. CD format comes out on the second week of September, with the vinyl format coming out mid/late September. The Red Dons are the continuation of the Observers. After members abruptly left the band in 2005, Douglas Burns, the Observers’ lead singer, artist, and primary songwriter teamed up with Hajji Husayn to continue on with the band. Next, Justin Maurer (Clorox Girls) on guitar and re-named this new line-up the Red Dons. Death to Idealism is the group’s first full-length album, and is perfect for fans of the Vicious, No Hope For the Kids, Gorilla Angreb, Clorox Girls, and of course the Observers. As to be expected, this record stays in tune with the melancholy, melodic, and sometimes unpredictable punk sounds of the Observers, and even features the excellent ‘Walk Alone’ track which appeared on a previous Observers 7” . Vinyl version comes out in September with full color gatefold cover. The Red Dons are currently on an extensive European tour with an full tour of the USA planned for later 2007.

***The gatefold covers for this record makes shipping individual mailorder copies heavier than your average 12” and thus more expensive. A few suggestions, if you would like both colored versions, I added a package deal in the online store that includes both versions and will save significantly on postage. For those only interested in one version of the album, you can add about 3 x 7”s or cds without your postage total changing so you get more for you dollar. For those interested in ordering a bunch of records or would like surface shipping (international locations only), email me at derangedyouth@hotmail.com to figure out some options.

VIOLENT MINDS - Both ‘We Are Nothing’ 12”, ‘Just Kicked In’ 7”, and a CD compiling both are now out. First off their ‘We Are Nothing’ 12”, recorded by Zach (ex-SHARKATTACK) and Justin from MINDERASER on drums over a year and a half ago and features some of VIOLENT MINDS fastest tracks to date. Straight forward hardcore stripped of polish - just raw distorted hardcore delivered at high velocity. Second, their ‘Just Kick In’ 7” includes 4 new tracks recorded in 2006 and features a more MOTORHEAD inspired VIOLENT MINDS. Plague by countless setbacks in the last two years, VIOLENT MINDS are now back and these three new releases along with the VERY great ‘eye of death’ 12” on PARTSUNKNOWN records should send a loud and clear message that VIOLENT MINDS are active once again and in all likelyhood touring Europe later this summer. Fans of DISCHARGE, MOTORHEAD and early American hardcore like NEGATIVE APPROACH take notes. Limited colored vinyl for both the 12” and 7” are still available via the online store.

TOTAL ABUSE - The first vinyl offering by ex- Snobs will not disappoint. Their demo made some waves and these new tracks step it up a notch – just as raw and fast but way more controlled. Basic primal HC with loads of speed and hooks that’s been compared to a mix of DRI and early Boston HC like Deep Wound. Preview track available at www.myspace.com/derangedrecords

HAYMAKER - A small repress of their monster LP is on its way – should be here in 2-3 weeks. I still need to put the finishing touches to the compilation/discography album. Hoping to have it done before the end of 2007.

86 MENTALITY - DC’s Terror Boys are BACK with their third slab of wax entitled ‘Final Exit’. Both their earlier 7”s on GRAVEMISTAKE records are absolute shredders and this new 7” entitled ‘final exit’ follows in the same vein of oi inspired hardcore punk. These six new tracks are full of crushing power that won’t let down fans of tough early American like Negative Approach and S.O.A and early BLITZ. www.myspace.com/derangedrecords

POISON CONTROL - The Violent Years 7” is POISON CONTROL’s first and in all likelihood, their last release. Though this Boston band has already called it quits, the four tracks are sure to leave folks wanting more. Solid mid-tempo US hardcore check www.myspace.com/derangedrecords

VIOLENT ARREST - Their new 7” comes out the second week of September and features 10 new tracks of Boston worshiping hardcore from three quarters of the former members of the U.K.'s original hardcore blasters RIPCORD and HERESY. While on the topic, the VIOLENT ARREST CD is now out. It compiles both their ‘s/t’ 12”, the upcoming 7” and ttwo bonus tracks. For pre-order information on colored vinyl for the new 7”, check the online store.

TRANZMITORS - The TRANZMITORS are back from the UK and will be going into the studio again this October to record a new 12” EP for DERANGED. The reviews from their ‘s/t’ album on DERANGED have surpassed expectations but we ain’t complaining. Here they are:

Razorcake

Hello Top Ten of 2007. With this, the release of the Tranzmitors’ first full-length, I was seventy-five percent expecting that they’d collect all of their 7”s, add a song, slap it on the butt, and call it a day. Nope. Nine new ones and a Scientists’ cover. It’s a cliché, but in this instance it’s true. You get different beasts from this record at differing volumes. At lower, “driving the folks around in their minivan in traffic” volumes, it’s much more Elvis Costello, Vapors, and soft melody, but when it’s rattling the plaster on the ceiling, the Jam and Exploding Hearts slice through the speakers. All this is basically me naming bands I really like—all of who embrace power pop—and the Tranzmitors not only make me think of them, they elbow themselves into the lineup right beside them, grinning madly. Highly recommended. –Todd Taylor

MRR #292

The cleaner, poppier, and dare I say more radio friendly this band has become, the more I love them. Perfect power pop meets the classic ’79 mod revival sound that I worship. If there’s any musical justice this band will be big, as they are without question head and shoulders better than all those Brit-pop pretenders, possessing way more respect for history, integrity, and song writing clout. (Do you really think those hair-farming posers THE ENEMY have ever heard of THE SCIENTISTS, who the TRANZMITORS cover brilliantly?) The chops of THE JAM, the energy of THE CIRCLES, some of that quick fire pop of SUPERGRASS, and the smartass swagger of PULP all wrapped up in the punk smugness of THE BOYS. Four tracks in and I’m giving this the MRR badge of honor usually reserved for the end of year winner; guess I didn’t have to wait long. Brilliant.

Exclaim

The much-anticipated full-length debut from Vancouver’s Tranzmitors is here and as far as albums go, it doesn’t get much better than these ten tracks of pop punk bliss. As the very first note creeps out, the combustive energy of the Tranzmitors takes hold and doesn’t let up. Comprised of current and former members of the Smugglers, the New Town Animals and the Parallels, the Tranzmitors’ style would find a happy home with fans of the Pointed Sticks, Clorox Girls, Buzzcocks and early Damned. Combining tinges of surf and sunshine with straight-ahead punk energy and perfect pop sensibilities, the Tranzmitors are undoubtedly poised to win the hearts of even the most jaded music fans. The album’s final song, “Everyone Wants to Lose Control,” seems a fitting sentiment to finish on, because losing control is exactly what this music will make you want to do.

Now Wave

Deranged's official line on the Tranzmitors album goes like this:
"Containing ex and current members of The Smugglers, The New Town Animals, and The Parallels, the power pop combo take their musical cues from bands like The Buzzcocks, The Undertones, and The Exploding Hearts."

That's a pretty spot-on sales pitch. But on this release, Vancouver's Tranzmitors broaden their '77 pop/punk approach by incorporating elements of new wave synth pop and 2 Tone ska. The combination of such influences with the distinct "Britishness" of the band's vocals has this album sounding like a long-lost relic from England circa 1981. No wonder the vinyl issue of this thing will be the first Stiff Records LP release in 20 years!

A lot of people who loved all the Tranzmitors singles seem let down by this full-length debut. And perhaps because of that, my expectations for this release were lowered. Boy, was I ever in for a surprise! This album's freakin' great! Chock full of big, buoyant hooks and zinging, instantly-catchy choruses, these songs are a pop lover's delight. Some songs vigorously work the Buzzcocks/Pointed Sticks blueprint. Others pick up from Jeff's solo project, Jeffie Genetic and his Clones (most underrated Dirtnap album ever!). And a few are reminiscent of late '70s/early '80s UK punk acts crossing over to the pop world - think Madness, The Members, or the Mick Jones side of The Clash. This is a sunny, relentlessly infectious collection of songs that's just perfect for the summer season. Even the aching, heartbroken love songs will leave you feeling good. I rarely dare to compare new bands to the Exploding Hearts. But if you listen to songs like "Something's Going On" and "Why Don't Boys Cry", the similarities are impossible to deny.

Working in a sub-genre too often characterized by paint-by-numbers copyism, the Tranzmitors manage to vary the playbook. Such things as doo-wop harmonies, '50s rock n' roll leads, offbeat guitar rhythms, and chirpy synthesizer riffs are seamlessly worked into the prevailing powerpop motif. And achoring it all are strong, emotionally-charged vocals and sharp, engaging songs. If memory serves me right, "Beating Up My Heart" was originally a Jeffie Genetic song. It returns here and benefits greatly from the full band treatment. Other standout tunes include "Teen Man", "Plastic Genocide", and "Do I Really Wanna Know" (the first three tracks on the album - how's that for sequencing?!). And while I've heard better versions of The Scientists' "Last Night", that particular cover selection does net these guys major taste points.

Okay, I'll say it: you naysayers are wrong. You all smoke crack and sleep with midgets. Your ears are made of cheese. This album is powerpop gold!

Emusic features/spotlight

One of the few new releases that has found its way into rotation on my iPod is the self-titled record by the Tranzmitors. The group is comprised of members of various Candian punk bands, but who’s in the band isn’t nearly as important as who they sound like. Mashing up All Mod Cons-era Jam with Green Day circa Gilman St. (and maybe more than a little Ric Ocasek), Tranzmitors write songs long on melody and energy. This is perfect hot-weather music, an aggravated faux-Brit pout bop-bop-bopping across elastic guitars, simple two-line hooks repeated over and over until they’re indelible. These are the kind of songs you can sing along with before they end; maybe that’s why I’m gravitating toward this so often. After one listen, it already feels familiar.

Rise Above Fanzine

Absolutely great record from Vancouver's Tranzmitors. I've listened to this record all the way through about 30 times in the past week, totally by my own volition! There are nine expertly written songs on here with more dangerous hooks than a Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (yeah, I'm reaching). There's also a song they didn't write, "Last Night" by The Scientists, an Australian band that I'm admittedly not too familiar with (this cover makes me want to hear more, though).

The album evokes some parallels to obvious influences (Buzzcocks & Undertones), and deservedly so. It's all tastefully reminiscent of bands you love, but still feels fresh. In a way, the main vocals remind me of those that Doug from The Observers laid down on So, What's Left Now, but much more acclimated to this type of music. They're perfect for what they're shooting for.

The lyrics are crafty and clever. There are songs that touch on the all-too-unfamiliar subjects of the phasing out of records, Fred Savage, and apartment gossip; there are songs that are about topics you would expect, topics that you know and love, such as: love. All of the songs are well-written in most any aspect you could desire. Some of the more memorable lines:

"Shit on by the birds
Stung by the bees
You say you are my baby
But I think you're just a tease"

"Still young if you're alive
Only one thing on your mind
No shame admitting to
It's just something we all wanna do"

There are some fantastic riffs on here, the little melody that works its way under the chords on "Genocide" haunts my dreams. I can't stress enough how tightly these songs are written instrumentally, you'll find yourself engrossed in the guitars, the keys, the drumming (when you get that feeling of "I wish the beat would go this way..." it does.) If you've ever enjoyed anything by the aforementioned Buzzcocks or Undertones, you'll love the Tranzmitors. (If you've never listened to either, I'm sure you've heard their songs before. Buzzcocks songs have even popped up in TV advertisements lately) If you're even a casual fan of modern bands like Clorox Girls or the Marked Men, you really ought to check it out as well.

Fresh from the pressing plant here is dubut full length for The Tranzmitors. These guys have been at it since 2004 and while it took some time for this full length to come out it was worth the wait. These guys have nailed the power pop sounds perfectly. This easily could have came out in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Like I said they nailed the sound down perfectly. This isnt some cheap imitation or tribute this is original material with enough originality and energy to make quit a mark on the scene. Honestly I cant say I have heard a record sounding like this being so good for some time. 10 tracks just over 32 minutes and well worth your money!

Dead Metaphor online

This is another LP about which I’ve heard some rumblings of discontent, and indeed there is nothing as brilliant as the band’s all-time hit “Bigger Houses, Broken Homes” on this 12?. In fact, there isn’t much to be found of that Nobody’s Heroes-era Stiff Little Fingers vibe on the Tranzmitors’ debut LP. I’ve heard people complain that the Tranzmitors are trying to be new wave, but to me this sounds like the Boys at their very best, with dashes of early Undertones and even the Specials’ first two LPs (the singer sounds uncannily like Terry Hall on a few tracks, including “Something Going On,” which I’ve included above).

While this LP hasn’t had as much time to percolate in my brain as the other two, I have a feeling that it could remain in my playlist much longer. There’s so much variation on this disc… the riffs are mostly simple but they’re augmented with great keyboard parts and totally catchy vocals. At least half of the songs on here were stuck in my head after the first listen, and the other half weren’t too far behind. Sure, I also wish this band stayed a little closer to their rawer origins, but how can you complain about a punk/pop/new wave LP that sounds this authentic and exciting?

Nerve Magazine

For me, the list of good British pop groups is much shorter than those that suck. Think of Flock of Seagulls, The Human League, Wham, the Pet Shop Boys, or at least try to without puking. The list goes on and on, and there is no end to the shite they’ve foisted on a gullible and tin-eared public. Conversely, the Tranzmitors draw their influences from British pop groups that don’t suck, such as the Boys, the Jam, XTC, and the Undertones (don’t bother to point out that the Undertones are from Ireland, smartasses), but they manage to do it in a way that is original and fresh, and that, my friends, is the secret to good rock ‘n’roll. And good it is – each song here is a perfect little gem, polished to a high gloss and flawlessly executed. Loaded with hooks, this CD is so catchy that the songs will get stuck in your head permanently. Sadly for the Tranzmitors, the record-buying public probably won’t discover these wonderful tunes for 10 years or so, when Jaguar uses them to sell cars.

TERMINAL STATE - Here is the MRR review of their recent 'sick' 7inch :

I think this is the first I've heard from TERMINAL STATE since that 12" they put out last year or the year before. I'm a fucking mine of information, eh? Anyway, this record contains three solid rippers. The recording is loud as fuck. Fast, pissed off hardcore punk. There's a reason this band is often mentioned in the same breath as FUCKED UP and CAREER SUICIDE.

TRANZMITORS - The TRANZMITORS will be heading out to the UK in mid August to support the STIFF edition of their S/T album. Here are some of the reviews I have managed to locate so far:

This easily could have came out in the late 70's or early 80's.

This is another LP about which I've heard some rumblings of discontent, and indeed there is nothing as brilliant as the band's all-time hit "Bigger Houses, Broken Homes" on this 12?. In fact, there isn't much to be found of that Nobody's Heroes-era Stiff Little Fingers vibe on the Tranzmitors' debut LP. I've heard people complain that the Tranzmitors are trying to be new wave, but to me this sounds like the Boys at their very best, with dashes of early Undertones and even the Specials' first two LPs (the singer sounds uncannily like Terry Hall on a few tracks, including "Something Going On," which I've included above).

While this LP hasn't had as much time to percolate in my brain as the other two, I have a feeling that it could remain in my playlist much longer. There's so much variation on this disc… the riffs are mostly simple but they're augmented with great keyboard parts and totally catchy vocals. At least half of the songs on here were stuck in my head after the first listen, and the other half weren't too far behind.

The list goes on and on, and there is no end to the shite they've foisted on a gullible and tin-eared public. Conversely, the Tranzmitors draw their influences from British pop groups that don't suck, such as the Boys, the Jam, XTC, and the Undertones (don't bother to point out that the Undertones are from Ireland, smartasses), but they manage to do it in a way that is original and fresh, and that, my friends, is the secret to good rock 'n'roll. And good it is – each song here is a perfect little gem, polished to a high gloss and flawlessly executed. Loaded with hooks, this CD is so catchy that the songs will get stuck in your head permanently. Sadly for the Tranzmitors, the record-buying public probably won't discover these wonderful tunes for 10 years or so, when Jaguar uses them to sell cars.

March, 2007

Finally an update! The last two months were busy ones but things are now back on track. My hotmail account appears to be temperamental and doesn't deliver all emails destined to derangedyouth@hotmail.com , especially those originating from Europe – go figure. If you email me and do not get a reply within 48 hours, feel free to email me at derangedgord@gmail.com .

PRE ORDERS / LIMITED EDITIONS - The following pre-orders have been recently added to the online store:

BRUTAL KNIGHTS 'feast of shame' LP – on green and gold vinyl
TERMINAL STATE 'sick' 7" – on white vinyl
RED DONS 'escape amman' 7" – on white and blue vinyl
TRANZMITORS 's/t' LP – on white/blue mixed vinyl
NITAD 'varlden maste do' 7" on red vinyl
VIOLENT ARREST 's/t' 12" – on red vinyl

VIOLENT MINDS - First off, yes VIOLENT MINDS is still an active band. Second, you can expect their 'WE ARE NOTHING' 12" EP to see the light of day this spring along with their new 'JUST KICKED IN' 7" and a CD format combining both. More VIOLENT MINDS information coming in soon.

POISON CONTROL - Their demo was great and though they did break up, they managed to record 4 tracks which will be coming out as a 7" this spring. Check myspace.com/derangedrecords to get a preview.

TERMINAL STATE - Not much was heard from TERMINAL STATE in 2006 but 2007 promises to keep fans of their 'Your Rules' 12"ep (DERANGED 2005) and their 'Panic Attack' 7" (HATE THE 80's) eyes wide open for more with the release of 3 new tracks on this solid piece of wax spewing off their take on snotty 80's hardcore punk. A CD compiling the aforementioned releases is also in the works along with plans to record their first album later this year. For the uninitiated, TERMINAL STATE play early US hardcore and their sound has been described as "absolute top shelf punk rock and an instant classic" (Razorcake #29). These 3 new tracks continue where the band left off without any lame departure in sound – totally ripping hardcore for fans of CAREER SUICIDE and GOVERNMENT WARNING. Limited white vinyl is still available via the online store but running low. For those who have already pre-ordered copies of this record, the covers should be arriving next week as which point, your wax will be in the mail.

MYSPACE - I recently set up an account on the world largest online community – lame!! This is by no means meant to replace the deranged website but I can update it myself without depending on anyone and it has connected me with some great bands in the last 6 months so what the hell. myspace.com/derangedrecords

RED DONS - The Red Dons are the continuation of the Observers. After members abruptly left the band in 2005, Douglas Burns, the Observers' lead singer, artist, and primary songwriter teamed up with Hajji Husayn to continue on with the band. Next, they added Derek Skokan (Revisions) on drums and Justin Maurer (Clorox Girls) on guitar and re-named this new line-up the Red Dons.

Escaping Amman is the group's debut release, and is perfect for fans of the Vicious, No Hope For the Kids, Gorilla Angreb, Clorox Girls, and of course the Observers. Autobiographical and cryptic in nature, this four song EP examines life in the Middle-East juxtaposed to the punk rock community. Similar hypocrisies, guile, and fundamentalist behavior are found in both worlds but escape is almost impossible.

As to be expected, this record stays in tune with the melancholy, melodic, and sometimes unpredictable punk sounds of the Observers, and even features a song co-written by ex-Observer Johnny Kashani. However, Escaping Amman's eastern music influences and vocal harmonies take the songwriting to places yet ventured by any previous Observers recording. The much anticipated Escaping Amman is perfect for anyone left wanting more from the Observers. Now accepting pre-orders for this item via the online store. Preview track available at www.myspace.com/derangedrecords

FUCKED UP - FU are going back to the UK.

May 17 - Manchester
May 18 - Sheffield

May 20 - London (Old Blue Last w/ UFFIE)

May 21 - London (w/ Love is All)

CAREER SUICIDE - Though Ebullition has plenty of copies, I am temporarily sold out of the vinyl edition of their 'Attempted Suicide' LP. A repress is in the works and will feature new centre label artwork. New reviews below:

Screaming bloody Mess
Not only do they put on one of most raging shows in the hardcore stratosphere- their Tokyo shows last year killed it- but these Toronto hosers bash out sick as fuck, raging KBD by way of late Eighties melodic hardcore that is jaw dropping awesome. Though the lineup on this recording is different to the one that toured Japan last year (Martin and Jonah are the only members of the original CS) the addition of Brandon from Direct Control and Government Warning is a decent enough coup. Pretty good deal, hey why doesn't one of the best bands in hardcore hook up with one of the best drummers in hardcore- makes sense. The best thing about CS is that while they have a strong knowledge and appreciation of the punk bands that came before them they still maintain a distinct sound and energy. I have pretty much all their releases and this is without doubt their strongest collection of songs (you even get lyrics that is if you can read as fast at Martin sings) and .the songs themselves are ALL strong. 'The Last Say' Recipe for Disaster "Impact Side' - fuck they are all good. But I think I'll go for the 'the Last Say' with his military drum beat intro as the go to song on the in store headphones for anyone still stupid enough to doubt this record. Classic.

Reckless Records
Toronto's CAREER SUICIDE having been blowing away almost every other contemporary punk band for a few years now & "Attempted Suicide" might just be their most intense statement yet. The record starts out fast & pretty much stays that way with short spaces between songs. The record has a pretty good sound (recording provided by Jon Drew who recorded FUCKED UP's "Hidden World" album) without sounding too slick. Imagine your favorite KBD punk bands with the speed of 80's hardcore & you might have an idea what these guys sound like. Totally amazing through and through.

Strange Reaction
There aren't many bands trying to ape the early 80's hardcore sound, and even fewer bands do it so well they can easily blend into your favorite 1982 mix tape. I see the KBD tag applied to them but that's not what I hear at all... if anything these guys sound more like old Boston hardcore than anything else, and being from Boston that's a compliment. If you like your punk fast, faster and without any tinge of metal then check out the latest from this Toronto band, it's like stepping into a hardcore time warp.

PUNKnews.org
Glory, glory, hallejulah! Certainly, Toronto, ON has the potential to be the new hardcore mecca based on the merits of other acts, but Career Suicide could do it all on their lonesome. The band's been doing purist early `80s hardcore punk for a few years now, but it's debatable that they haven't sound as accomplished as they do now with their second proper full-length and first in close to five years: Attempted Suicide.

Now more than ever Career Suicide has unearthed an absolute artifact. Attempted Suicide could be a 25-year anniversary of the style. Among its unrelenting sense of outrage, spewed disgust, shocking catchiness and perfectly 'rough' production it might be argued Career Suicide even do it better than a couple of their influences (gasp!). Laid out in the expertly minimal liner notes in a tightly typewritten font are some of the vastly more intelligent ramblings that make most of America's contributions to hardcore sound…less than well-expressed. Career Suicide don't need five-dollar words because they've got the most direct, elaborate condemning and general, hopeless questioning around (" Show me the vein to cut / I want to know exactly how to do it / just how much of my blood will wash the troubles of this world away?" / "How long have you neglected that the hands that strangle you are yours? ").

These words are even more effective in their delivery within the context of the music, which is nothing less than blistering for a blip over 20 minutes. The only arguable let-up could be the title track, for it begins with a simple chant of the song/album title along in time with the drums. Otherwise Career Suicide take you on a vicious ride lead by raspy, ramblingly yelled vocals, several gratuitous (yet concise) solos and an unadulterated, pounding pace. If you're not into it when Martin Farkas screams he's " getting / sick of / always…play[ing] the fucking part" in the opening torch "Play the Part," Attempted Suicide may not do much for you from that point on. Granted, the band's garage edge has been stripped just a bit and they seem more fastcore-influenced than straight-up fastcore, both of which probably make things a bit more listenable than usual (for them), but this has only refined Career Suicide in the best of ways. They might only grab you by the throat with four fingers now, but they're digging even deeper into the jugular. Highly recommended.

TRANZMITORS – Their album is scheduled for release this May. Test presses have been approved and now accepting pre-orders via the online store. Formed in the winter of 2004, The Tranzmitors came together to fill a much overlooked void in the rock 'n' roll scene in Vancouver, BC . Containing ex- and current members of The Smugglers, The New Town Animals and The Parallels, the power pop combo take their musical cues from bands like The Buzzcocks, The Undertones and The Exploding Hearts, have shared stages with The Clorox Girls, The Spits, The Pointed Sticks and Fucked Up among others and have released records that have won over the critics at Terminal Boredom, Razorcake, Exclaim and Maximum Rock & Roll magazines. With the release of their debut album on Deranged Records (licensed in Europe to legendary UK label STIFF RECORDS (CD format only)), The Tranzmitors are hoping that fans will embrace pop once again and be dancing in the front row! MP3s available here myspace.com/thetranzmitors.

VIOLENT ARREST – For those who are just catching on, their debut 12" on DERANGED is a total ripper. Recent reviews are below, limited colored vinyl still available in the online store and are currently working on new material as we speak.

Welly - Artcore Fanzine
Twenty years later and they're still at it! Featuring three quarters of the former members of the U.K.'s original hardcore blasters RIPCORD, VIOLENT ARREST burst forth with twelve brand new rippers, rippling with the same urgency and controlled rage that brought about the original notoriety of these west coast thrashers. Former RIPCORD and SPITE vocalist Steve barks his usual socially aware lyrics, former RIPCORD, HERESY and CAN'T DECIDE guitarist Steve 'Baz' Ballam chops his Boston hardcore influenced guitar, former EXCREMENT OF WAR vocalist Leigh brings subtle D-Beat tones to the bass, and former RIPCORD, CAN'T DECIDE and SPITE drummer John cuts a precise thrash behind the kit. The outcome is a razor sharp hardcore assault harkening back to their eighties roots, clocking in at around a minute a song along with a cover of JERRY'S KIDS' 'This Is Boston Not L.A.' contribution 'Wired', that along with their name, stands as a glaring example of their influence, VIOLENT ARREST pick the baton up right where they left their classic hardcore lineage!

From MRR 287
The past endeavors of the members of this band should sell this 12" to most folks. VIOLENT ARREST features three of the original members of RIPCORD, which means that you know it's going to be pretty good. No surprises here, as this disc is an absolute ripper. It actually sounds more POISON IDEA than RIPCORD with the speed turned down a notch (must be the old age, lads?). Baz Ballam's Boston guitar licks are unmistakable though (they do a JERRY'S KIDS cover), and some of these tracks could have been lifted from a lost SSD record. In this day and age of old bands reforming its nice to see folks from legendary bands of yore, making new bands that lay waste. Essential.

Bruce Roehrs column:
Fuck yes! Deranged Records continues their relentless attack on the listening public! The newest salvo is the VIOLENT ARREST self-titled LP. This ferocious music is the work of veteran hardcore troopers. Ex-members of legendary hardcore bands RIPCORD and HERESY show the young hardcore kids how it's done! The music VIOLENT ARREST has created starts out screaming and accelerates from there! The VIOLENT ARREST LP is seething with anger and comes straight at you with unstoppable force! Former RIPCORD vocalist Mr. Steve Hazzard imbues his intelligent lyrics with a dangerous edge. Steve Ballam (RIPCORD, HERESY), overwhelms your brain with his guitar bludgeon! Rounding out this band of highly respected hardcore journeymen is Leigh Rocker on bass (EXCREMENT OF WAR) and John Miller (RIPCORD) on drums. Fucking brilliant! For two years these bad men from Bristol, England have refined a larger than life hardcore hell spawn! VIOLENT ARREST harnesses a full-speed hardcore beast and rides the fucker to the last line of the final attack. There's no stopping to catch your breath on this ride! If you lose your handhold on this hell bound train, there's no chance to climb back aboard! With poignant songs such as 'Take the Power Back', 'Down the Drain', 'War of Nerves', and 'Born on your Knees', these lyrics cut the quick! Song six on side A is 'Cannon Fodder'. This hardcore masterpiece builds to an unbelievable momentum that will reduce many tough guy hardcore individuals to tears!!! Side two of this VIOLENT ARREST triumph is equally challenging! These elder statesmen in the pantheon of hardcore gods show no mercy, offer no quarter!

BRUTAL KNIGHTS - Their 2nd album ' FEAST OF SHAME ' is now out. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Similarly, when Brutal Knights hands you a new album called Feast Of Shame, make piss in your pants, because you should be excited. The Toronto fivesome, whose debut LP(The Pleasure Is All Thine, also on Deranged Records) established them as being immature for their age, has continued making music, resulting in the 14 songs recorded by Jon Drew at Toronto's Signal To Noise studios (FUCKED UP 'hidden world', Career Suicide 'attempted suicide') and then mixed by musician Jay Reatard in Memphis. The arduous kampf that went into this release is probably what sent drummer Msgzus packing, although not before laying down awesome drumwork for the LP. Feast of Shame features BRUTAL KNIGHTS at their best – faster, rawer and dumber than before with the production to boot! By the way, there are songs about food on this album ("The Perfect Buffet"). There are also songs about haters (You're Fired[I Quit]).There are also songs about being randy(every song on the album). There are also songs about not being emotionally or physically strong ("So Weak"). There are also songs about losing weight ("Bikini Diet"). The way the songs sound is like a peanut butter and white bread sandwich being eaten Lady and The Tramp-style by Joel Madden and Wendy O. Williams, while Jon Sharron sits and lets the image inspire riffs, and Nick Flanagan is also there, writing a rhyming article about the whole thing. Sorry, it will not cure your STDs. MP3 here http://www.derangedrecords.com/mp3/brutalknights/BK-feast_of_shame.mp3 . Colored vinyl is available in two variations, 100 on gold vinyl, and 100 on green vinyl. Recent reviews below:

Now magazine Rating: NNNN
Once the court jesters of the Toronto punk kingdom, the Brutal Knights have quickly become round table royalty, and with the blazing Feast Of Shame they're beginning to sound like the ruling elite. Stand-up/singer Nick Flanagan enunciates his verbal assault more clearly than ever so the subtleties of his stoopidly clever social commentary can now be heard above the group's rapid-fire blast, which has turned from early-80s Los Angeles ignoroid punk scattershot to something more in line with the over-amped sonic reducer rock of the Dead Boys. Their attack is so intense and relentless, not even Jay Reatard's mix 'n' master job can undermine it.

Big Takeover
Like Gillman Street transplanted to Canada at the cusp of the new millennium, The Brutal Knight's are completely immature, irreverent and obnoxious. The music is loud, banging and not all that particularly skillfully played. The lyrics come off more as ill-thought out rants on the band member's daily life with frivolous pop culture references, as opposed to any sort of art or god forbid, poetry. It's punk played by punks, as in the derogatory slur, not as in any sort of the fashionable sense that its come to embody. It's a kick square in the ass to everyone and everything… and all of this is what makes it so damn awesome.

NITAD - Their debut 7" is out and should expect some reviews in the near future. In the meantime, here is what MRR had to say about the demo – I love this NITAD demo! I know this has been thrown around a lot recently but this Stockholm band is totally reminiscent of first wave LA hardcore crossed with early, basic punk. It also manages to keep the bouncy, feel-good elements of their foundation laying country mates like ASTA KASK or EBBA GRON. Get on this quick so you can pretend they're old news by the time their 7" comes out on Deranged in the near future.

January 26, 2007

Happy New Year everyone. 2006 was a good year and 2007 is promising to be even more insane. First off, little Milo Dufresne showed up January 2 nd - good little dude, happy to have him around for the ride. Lots of other great personal stuff going on but won't bore you with details. Records! Records! And more Records. Loads of new releases in the works including a number of excellent 7" records which I am extremely happy about. Also new distribution in Europe which should mean a significant increase in the availability of DERANGED releases through out Europe. More information on that coming shortly.

CAREER SUICIDE - Both the vinyl and CD of this classic are now out. I am expecting my copies of the vinyl to arrive in the coming week at which point pre-orders will be mailed out.

It's hard to believe but after five years and a whole slew of vinyl, Toronto's CAREER SUICIDE have produced their finest record yet! The combination of machinegun drumming from Brandon Ferrell (Direct Control, Government Warning) and raw but crystal clear production from Jon Drew (Fucked Up "generation" and "Hidden World") make this LP a classic. CS manages to combine catchy 'Killed By Death' styled punk sing alongs like the title track and the raw speed and power of early hardcore whilst overwhelmingly maintaining and refining their own sound. Superb songwriting is definitely the key; there are no thirty-second-thrash filler songs here! You will find this whole LP permanently roaring through your brain. It is tighter, louder, harder, and more realized than any of the CS releases which preceded it, so do yourself a favor and pick up the best but hopefully not last LP from CAREER SUICIDE. Here is a track http://www.derangedrecords.com/mp3/cs/savingface.mp3 I understand there will be a record release show in Toronto, no details as of yet but if you live remotely close, I would try my best to figure out when and where...

TRANZMITORS – The album has been recorded, mixed and mastered. Killer pop album goes into production this month, should be out in March. MP3 available here http://www.derangedrecords.com/mp3/tranzmitors/Tranzmitors_LP.mp3 Of interest, a Tranzmitors interview was featured in a recent MRR and they were invited to played the POINTED STICKS re-union that took place in Vancouver last month. Both their 'bigger houses' 7" on Deranged and their 7" on LATIDA have been repressed with a slightly different cover, I will have copies in the online store next week.

VIOLENT ARREST – their s/t 12" is now out and getting flash response – here is what the NO WAY records folks had to say 'This is one damn good 12". Brought to by fellas that used to be in RIPCORD and HERESY so obviously this would be the case. They are named after a FREEZE song but sound more on the end of SSD and a little NEGATIVE FX. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT stuff here. Powerful and hard hitting, this one's gonna be on the turntable ALOT for sure.' Color vinyl for this item is still available in the online store if interested. warofnerves.mp3

NITAD – Stockholm, Sweden 2005 - Nitad is born as a result of boredom, and a way for these old punk rockers to get back to their roots, and a common interest of drinking alcohol. After all, Nitad is the Swedish word for wasted... The members can also be found in bands such as Nine, Dims Rebellion, Revelling Blind and more... The 7inch, called "Världen måste dö" (The world must die) on Deranged Records represents the best of the band's songs to date taken from two demo sessions. If you take one part of old US-hardcore (Black Flag, MIA, Zero Boys etc) and mix it in a blender together with early Scandinavian punk (Ebba Grön, KSMB, Tervet Kädet etc) and sing it in Swedish you get a rough idea of what it's all about. Expect more releases by NITAD on Deranged in the near future. You can listen to three tracks from this 7" at www.myspace.com/nitadstockholm Test presses have been approved, covers are already here, this will be out by mid February or earlier. There are 100 copies on red vinyl. The band has screened 5 shirts with gold ink which will be raffled off from those who pre-order this item (yes you can include other stuff with your order and still be eligible). To view the shirt, check out their myspace site.

BRUTAL KNIGHTS - Their 2nd album 'FEAST OF SHAME' is due out in February. Colored vinyl will come in two variations, 100 on gold vinyl, and 100 on green vinyl. Test presses have been approved and this will be out by mid February. BK are also touring part of the USA, see them live, they rule!

For those in the Pacific NortWest, FUCKED UP will be playing 3 shows in the Vancouver area started Feb. 15. More information coming shortly. The FUCKED UP ‘mix tape volume two’ is now available on the online store. This recording was mixed professionally and includes a BUNCH of exclusive materials. The second in a series, to coincide with the events and releases in Hidden World-period Fucked Up. This time around the fat is trimmed to 60 minutes, and features alternate versions, unreleased songs, alternate vocal tracks, live and recorded cover versions and more live interview nonsense. Also features unreleased and exclusive tracks from COLD WORLD, SEX VID, BRUTAL KNIGHTS, MIND ERASER, SOCIAL CIRCKLE, URBAN BLIGHT and LOOK BACK AND LAUGH. Produced by David Eliade and limited to 1500 copies! A cassette-only release. Postage for this item is a little tricky so pay attention if you are interested in purchasing a copy. The postage calculator for the online store will provide you with a total based on the tape being shipped as ‘oversized’ letter mail which pretty much means, your tape in a regular paper envelop with no padding except for the actual plastic case. The other option is to mail it as a small packets which more than doubles the postage price. If you want your tape to be packaged in a padded envelop, you need to email me for the appropriate postage cost. In a nutshell, letter mail to the USA is $1.78, small packet is $5.95. For international destinations, $3.49 for letter and $7.30 for small packet. Your choice.

86 MENTALITY – One of my favorite bands in recent years will be recording their third 7” for DERANGED in early 2007. Needless to say that I am pleased – I can’t wait to hear the new recording.

SHOWS IN KENTUCKY/INDIANA – If you set up DIY shows in either states or know someone who does, please email me as I know a great band touring your neck of the woods in early 2007. Specifically looking for shows in either Louisville or Indianapolis.

HAYMAKER - Mark this date in your calendar: Saturday January 13th, at the Ottobar in Baltimore, the legendary HAYMAKER will be coming out of retirement and playing what could be one of very few shows for 2007. Still working on their compilation CD, due out in March.

CAREER SUICIDE - After some significant delays, all parts are in order and their ATTEMPTED SUICIDE LP/CD is due to come out by mid- January. Here is a track!

BAYONETTES - Their new 7” is out NOW! Preorders are in the mail and colored vinyl is still available on our online store. 4 new tracks of killer punk pop. Toronto’s THE BAYONETTES combine pop hooks and garage rock swagger with a sneering punk bravado that recalls classic early punk (AVENGERS, NASTY FACTS) while remaining decidedly modern in spirit and execution. Inspired by the creativity and energy of early Los Angeles punk’s Dangerhouse label (home to THE BAGS, WEIRDOS, and X among others), THE BAYONETTES formed in early 2004 with the unmistakable intention to shake up the jaded cynicism of their hometown’s hardcore punk scene. It becomes clear the moment the band takes the stage that this foursome is determined to liven up and electrify the tedious monotony of modern day punk rock. After recording their demo and touring extensively throughout the eastern United States, the band enlisted producer Jon Drew (BRUTAL KNIGHTS, UNCUT) to helm recording session in 2005. “Stuck In This Rut” backed with “Sour”, a 7” single on Deranged, was critically acclaimed in punk circles and was listed on six of Maximum Rock and Roll’s best-of lists the month of its release. “We’re Doomed”, produced by Chris Hegge (FUCKED UP, CAREER SUICIDE), explores a newfound lyrical pessimism coupled with the band’s trademark straightforward punk assault. Together with the stark black and white imagery by Toronto artist Tara Bursey, the record nods clearly and cleverly to punk’s past while remaining contemporary and immediate. Look for the BAYONETTES on tour through out the USA and Europe in 2007.

TRANZMITORS – After a few lame delays at the pressing plant, their 4th single is now out. For those who haven’t heard, the TRANZMITORS are from Vancouver and feature ex SMUGGLERS and NEW TOWN ANIMALS. They sounds falls along the lines of 70’s pop punk not unlike the BUZZCOCKS and POINTED STICKS but with a more Jerry Lewis guitar driven sound. Full length album has been recorded and due out in March.

VIOLENT MINDS – The new EP has been recorded. I haven’t heard it yet but extremely excited. This should be out in late February / early March. VM plans on touring Europe in 2007 and hopefully Japan if someone is interested in setting up a solid tour.

TERMINAL STATE – Not much to be heard from these guys in the last year but they are back with 3 new tracks to serve as a precursor to a full length album for later in 2007. The new 7” is due out in early January (vinyl already here) and continue where the 12” EP left off with more of the same classic hardcore formula. For a preview, check http://myspace.com/terminalstatehc and sick.mp3 Limited edition white vinyl are available through the online store.

THE RED DONS – New band featuring Doug from the Observers and Justin from the Clorox Girls doing anthemic punk similar to where the Observers left off. Expect a 7” in late February and some touring in 2007. On a related note, Doug has also recently started another band by the name of THE REVISIONS, any OBSERVERS fans should check http://www.myspace.com/therevisions

November, 2006

Been over a month since the last update. It has been an extreme months with loads of represses and new releases to keep me busier than ever. Preorders for the FUCKED UP hidden world double LP have now been mailed out – all 340 copies of them. For those who also ordered the FUCKED UP volume 2 cassette, your package was mailed out a little later so give it an extra week. Thanks again for all those who preorder. It helps. Next are the BAYONETTES and TRANZMITORS 7” which are due next week or so. Also worth mentioning, my copies of the POISON IDEA ‘latest will and testament’ LP/CD arrived, 5 months late but arrived nonetheless. For all the patient folks out there who have been waiting, A) thanks for waiting with me and trusting me with your money and B) your record or CD are now in the mail.

FUCKED UP - Both their Hidden World double LP and Mix Tape Volume 2 are now in circulation and it feels so good. If you run a distro or store, feel free to contact me directly to get copies. The band plans on doing quite a bit of touring in the next little while including UK and Vancouver, dates to be confirmed. The GERMAN PRESS of their Dangerous Fumes 7” is now out on HATE records from Germany. I have 30 copies available in the online store. Notice that this record is heavier than most 7”s and goes over the 100 gram weight/postage category so please buy something else with your order to get more for your money.

SEX VID – If you haven’t picked up their 7” on Kill Test, well you should – it’s great. They have another 7” on the way to be released on Clearance Thomas records shortly and a 12” on Deranged later in 2007. They are doing a small tour this month:

SEX VID/WHITE BOSS - Nov Tour:
18th-Portland w/PRF, NIX
21st-Los Angeles-?

24th-Oakland w/American Fat

CAREER SUICIDE - Test presses of the remastered Attempted Suicide LP have been approved and currently waiting on the band to sign off on the inner sleeve artwork and CD layout.

TERMINAL STATE - New 3 song 7” comes out this December. Another great Toronto record, full length coming in 2007. MP3s available here: terminal_state-sick.mp3 and here: myspace.com/terminalstatehc. Accepting preorders for copies on white vinyl (200 made) now in the store.

BAYONETTES - The new BAYONETTES ‘we’re doomed’ 7’ EP comes out next week. Preorders will ship out shortly there after. Mp3 available here http://www.derangedrecords.com/mp3/bayonettes/doomed.mp3 . Limited white vinyl with matte covers (regular press has glossy covers) are still available for those interested via the online store. There is talk of some copies coming with a limited edition cover but waiting on the band to confirm and provide me with the actual artwork.

TRANZMITORS – The new TRANZMITORS ‘teenage tragedy’ 7” has faced a few delays at the pressing plant. We are still waiting on test presses which should have been approved over a month ago. White vinyl copies are still available in the online store. Their s/t album has been recorded and will be out in early 2007. MP3s should be posted shortly and assure anyone remotely interested in this band that their album features their best stuff to date.

Out next are the VIOLENT ARREST 12” and NITAD EP.

OCTOBER 1, 2006

Attention BRYCE WARMAN, please email me.

PREORDERS & ONLINE STORE - New pre-orders have been added including the new BAYONETTES and TRANZMITORS 7"s, and FUCKED UP mix tape volume 2. Both FUCKED UP hidden world double LP and CAREER SUICIDE attempted suicide LP (rejected mastering job) also listed in the store (not in the preorder section of the store). If you do not have PayPal, you can still use the online store to figure out your total (minus the 5% paypal fee) and send me payment via mail. I accept well-hidden US cash or International Postal Money orders payable to Gordon Dufresne.

PROMO LIST - This may come as a shock to some but DERANGED is a one man operation and things have become increasingly busier over the years so I am looking for a little assistance. I am looking to build a pretty comprehensive promo list which will include magaZINES (printed and online) and radio stations. If you are involved with either and would like to receive promo copies of DERANGED releases, email me your contact information as well as a link to magazines or websites with which you are affiliated with. I am also looking to share promo lists with other labels so get in touch if you are interested.

FUCKED UP - The FUCKED UP mix tape volume two is now ready for preorder and has been added to the online store. Should be out in less than 3 weeks time. This recording was mixed professionally and includes a BUNCH of exclusive materials. The second in a series, to coincide with the events and releases in Hidden World-period Fucked Up. This time around the fat is trimmed to 60 minutes, and features alternate versions, unreleased songs, alternate vocal tracks, live and recorded cover versions and more live interview nonsense. reviews from RAZORCAKE #34:

FUCKED UP Hidden World CD
“Truly great bands will make you eat your words and you'll smile with every bite. They'll challenge your fundamental musical beliefs. Fucked Up is one of those bands. Last week, if you would have told me that I'd be defending a band with a nine and half minute song, I'd of said, "Fuck you and all the Asia records ever made." But, somehow, Fucked Up has been able to take that hallowed two-minutes-and-out energy, and blow it apart. It's like whomever first discovered America: it got expanded and exploited way beyond anyone's wildest expectations. Grand Canyon in scope, Hidden World spans seventy-something minutes, sweeping and filling every section with an awe that gets infinitely larger. I got this same feeling - nowhere near the sound - from Turbonegro's Apocalypse Dudes and Dillinger Four's Midwestern Songs of the Americas. All these musical notes lying on the ground, seemingly scattered and broken up by subgenre, pigeonholed by the lazy hacking of sounds, trampled by careless or not-as-talented-as-they-thought musicians? These notes, they all belong together. They all fit. Somehow. And for?for all intents and purposes to the world at large?Fucked Up is "just" a hardcore band. Good lord, what ambition. There's about ninety-nine levels to this record andI'm gonna keep listening deeper and deeper.” - Todd Taylor

LEFT FOR DEAD - If you haven't noticed yet, the website has a link to a trailer for the upcoming LEFT FOR DEAD live enhanced CD. I am now trying to accumulate some pictures in order to put together a decent layout. If you have pictures or know someone who does from either the Moe's Tavern show or the "practice" show the night before at Planet Kensington, please get in touch.

CAREER SUICIDE - For those who pre-ordered copies of the the "first mastering/rejected" edition of their Attempted Suicide LP, your record(s) is in the mail. Test presses for the remastered version are expected this week. If you haven't heard, this record is incredible. Here is a track, Saving Face.

BAYONETTES - Now also accepting pre-orders for the new BAYONETTES we're doomed 7" EP. New mp3 available here: We're Doomed. There will be 100 copies on limited white vinyl and they should sell extremely quickly. Their recent Stuck in this Rut single on DERANGED recently received the following raving review in Razorcake #34:

“Sharp shooting punk pop with crystalline female vocals cutting the way. If you like X-RAY SPEX (sans horns and a little less of Polly's trill and howl/yodel) and have it updated via the likes of the SOVIETTES (the male backup vocals add a nice dimension), you're in the right place. This Canadian foursome jounces on the lean musical bedrock of something akin to early POLICE, where the playing's inventive, but not flashy; rockin' without the crotch-grabbin'. If my math's right, Mark Pesci, who plays in the Bayonettes, was the dude who did a stage dive right onto the floor during a MARKED MEN show in Austin, was ambulanced out, but managed to play a set the next day. That's a testament to the power of good music healing, once again, and so is this short slab of vinyl.

TRANZMITORS - Now also accepting pre-orders for the new TRANZMITORS Teenage Tragedy 7" single. New mp3 available here: Teenage Tragedy. There will be 100 copies on limited white vinyl. They start recording their album in 2 weeks time.

VIOLENT MINDS - Extremely excited to report that VIOLENT MINDS have recorded a five song EP for DERANGED. More information to follow but needless to say I am quite excited to be working with this great band.

BRUTAL KNIGHTS - Their second album has been recorded and currently being mixed/mastered by Jay Reatard. An unmastered track has been added to their MySpace. Expect a release date in early 2007.

Other projects I am working on include the VIOLENT ARREST 12" and NITAD EP.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006

STORES/DISTROS - OUT NOW: FUCKED UP dangerous fumes 7", SIEGE drop dead CD, LEFT FOR DEAD live LP on RED vinyl, BAYONETTES stuck in a rut 7" repress on black or green vinyl, TRANZMITORS bigger houses 7" repress on pink or yellow vinyl, and CAREER SUICIDE attempted suicide LP 1st mastering (see below). Interested in placing an order, I also included below a full list of available releases and drop me a line. Thanks.

ONLINE STORE - Both FUCKED UP hidden world double LP and CAREER SUICIDE attempted suicide LP (first press) now listed in the store along with a few limited items. Also just added the new CLOROX GIRLS 7" and walk the plank LP. If you do not have paypal, you can still use the online store to figure out your total (minus the 5% paypal fee) and send me payment via mail. I accept well-hidden US cash or International Postal Money orders payable to Gordon Dufresne.

WEBSITE/INTERN WORK - Know nothing about websites and thus looking for someone to assist me with website related work. Primarily looking for a programmer to revamp the catalogue section of the website. I can either pay your or it can count towards an internship program. PS - you don't have to be in the Vancouver region to apply for this.

FUCKED UP - As previously mentioned, I am now accepting pre-orders for their Hidden World double LP. A lot of folks have asked if there is going to be a limited edition, well the only distinguishing feature between the mailorder version and the regular press is that the mailorder copies will have the band logo stamped on the inner sleeves. There is talk of a boxset but the exact contents have not yet been confirmed.

Their Dangerous Fumes single is moving fast and for those who bought copies from the band while on tour and did not get an insert, I have some. If and when you place an order with DERANGED, ask me to include an insert.

The second mix tape is being mixed professional as we speak and includes a BUNCH of exclusive materials. Fucked Up Mixtape Vol II Ok, the second in a series, to coincide with the events and releases in Hidden World-period Fucked Up. Not yet available for ordering but more information coming shortly.

BRUTAL KNIGHTS - BK are finishing up their second album. It will very likely be out very late 2006 or early 2007 at the very latest.

CAREER SUICIDE- The "first mastering" job edition is still available through the online store but moving fast - just waiting on the inserts. This version comes on black vinyl, regular cover, and is limited to about 150 copies. For those who have/are ordering through the online store, you copies will come with the band logo stamped in red ink on the inner sleeve.

BAYONETTES - The repress of their Stuck in a Rut single is now available (few on green vinyl - see online store). Should have mp3s of their new 7" up on the website shortly.

SIEGE - Yes the CD is out. An interview is in the works and will make its way to MRR at some point this year. It is with great pleasure that DERANGED releases the definitive, artist approved CD discography of the hardcore classic. Just like the recent DEEPSIX records vinyl re-issue, this CD includes 9 tracks from their demo and Cleanse the Bacteria compilation tracks (Pusmort/Pushead). Originally recorded over 20 years ago at the legendary Radiobeat studio by Lou Giordano and remastered from the original tapes for this release. They were the first to pull this sound off and did it extremely well. Laid the foundation for fast powerful hardcore such as INFEST and DROP DEAD as well as influencing classic grindcore bands such as NAPALM DEATH. Over 20 years later, this is still an absolute scorcher.

TEEN CRUD COMBO - For those who have yet to hear the album, here is a recent review from Canada largest music magazine, EXCLAIM:

"Even if they only influenced enough people to fit in a phone booth and still leave room for unhampered arm swinging, Toronto's TEEN CRUD COMBO were one of Canada's greatest punk rock'n'roll outfits to date. Unabashedly confrontational, witty, confident to the point of snotty and just plain raucous, they sounded like an even faster ZEKE fused with NEW BOMB TURK's swing and the Spades' impetuousness. Which is why Judgement Night Soundtrack Part II, only now seeing the light of day - six years after its due - is a tragic comedy of Shakespearian proportions. Imagine if Shakespeare had sported a leather jacket with denim vest festooned in Hookers and Puffball patches. Few bands have matched the aura of peril and inevitable destruction brought about on ravenous and wily tracks such as "Sex Afterparty", "Dirty Chick" and "ROT". As fun as it is fearsome, one can only hope that some sort of TURBONEGRO-esque posthumous interest in the belated release will inspire a return to such overlooked brilliance."

AUGUST 2, 2006

Big news this month. The new FUCKED UP dangerous fumes 7" comes out on Monday August 7th for those who ordered directly through DERANGED. Ebullition will have copies in approximately 3 weeks time. Also coming out this month, August 12th to be specific is the SIEGE drop dead CD discography. More information concerning both releases and then some below.

ONLINE STORE - Both FUCKED UP hidden world double LP and CAREER SUICIDE attempted suicide LP (first press) now listed as preorder in the store along with a few limited items. The label responsible for the recent POISON IDEA latest will and testament LP/CD has just mailed me a second batch of lp/cds since the first one was lost in transit. I expect them in less than 2 weeks. If you do not have paypal, you can still use the online store to figure out your total (minus the 5% paypal fee) and send me payment via mail. I accept well-hidden US cash or International Postal Money orders payable to Gordon Dufresne.

FUCKED UP - Their Dangerous Fumes single ships out next week. Stores/distros email me direct for copies. This new single features two new exclusive tracks one of which is bound to cause a little commotion over its lyrical contents. Without getting into too many details, the song tackles one of society's biggest taboos in that "fucked up" kinda of way. Actually, it really doesn't "tackle" the subject at all but does definitely bring attention to it without taking a clear stand on the issue. Dangerous Fumes was meant to have been recorded and released over 3 years ago and originally meant to be released on the now defunct MY WAR records.

I am now accepting pre-orders for their HIDDEN WORLD double LP. This monsters features 13 tracks spread over 72 minutes, full color gatefold cover, full color poster, WestWestSide mastering and Golden lacquer mastering. It weights just over 500 grams without a mailer so postage is going to be steep - $12 for shipping to the USA, $27 for International Airmail. To get more bang for your buck, I recommend you add a couple 7"s or CDs to your order which will have no bearing to the postage total. Surface mail is also an option which significantly decreases the postage cost, email me if you are interested in that option. Official release will not be until late October but pre-orders will be mailed out as soon as the finished product is in my hands which should be mid-September. Yes some of the songs are long and I don't personally like the last two tracks but this is without any doubt an amazing record with an equally amazing packaging including artwork (poster) that is exclusive to the vinyl format.

In case you haven't already heard, the vinyl format of HIDDEN WORLD is under license from Jade Tree which is doing the CD format. Since I simply hate writing reviews for my own releases, here is the release description from Jade Tree: “Hidden World, the band's first full length studio album, marks a turning point for the mysterious Toronto band, transcending the boundaries of punk with melody, aggression, expansive structures and enigmatic diatribes on what lies underneath the immediate, visualized world. FUCKED UP combine confrontational ideologies with deliberate misinformation to produce a brutal analysis on thought provocative punk. In a word, FUCKED UP and Hidden World is dangerous and unpredictable in a time when punk has become a manufactured commodity.”

CAREER SUICIDE - Their Attempted Suicide LP will be remastered as per the band which means that the official release date for this classic is now delayed until early fall. That being said, I have just over 100 copies of the first pressing of this record with the original mastering job (like the one they sold on their recent US tour) for sale. These will have the regular covers and inserts and will not be ready for another 3 weeks but regardless, first come first served. Half will be added to the online store, the rest to stores and distros that contact me asap. CD format is coming along and will be out before the official vinyl format is ready. If you haven't heard already, this is their best material to date.

BAYONETTES - Great news, not only is the repress (few on green vinyl - see online store) of their "stuck in rut" single scheduled to arrive any day now, so is the audio and artwork for their next EP on DERANGED. Though I have yet to hear this new recording, I expect it will surpass their earlier records considering both were recorded over a year ago.

SIEGE - It is with great pleasure that DERANGED releases the definitive, artist approved CD discography of the hardcore classic.
